How to make Whoopie Pies

Oh my goodness, I wish I would have saved just one to eat while I write this post. My favorite part isn’t the filling as much as the cookie itself.

Start the whoopie batter with a stick of butter and one cup of sugar.

Cream together then add in an egg then mix away.

Now add your vanilla. Oh, how I love the smell of vanilla!

Add in your cocoa powder and mix, mix!

Now that the base is finished we will start on the flour. You will need to premix your flour, soda and baking powder to make sure nothing clumps. You don’t want to bite into to one of those yummy Halloween Whoopie Pies and get a big ole’ mouth full of baking soda. I’ve done that and it’s the shock of your life to bite into something so.. lets say nasty!

So stir well!

Add the flour mixture half at a time. So sprinkle in your first half then mix and then sprinkle in the second half.

Your batter should look like this picture below. Pretty thick, chocolaty, yummy and ready to go in the oven! Did you preheat to 400 degrees? If not go ahead and do that.

Using a large spoon, humm..  I think it’s called a soup spoon. So using the spoon scoop get a good scoop and drop it onto the pan at least 2 inches apart.

So using the spoon scoop get a good amount and drop it onto the pan at least 2 inches apart.

Space them sort of like this..

Cook them for 7-9 minutes in your preheated 400 degree oven. Watch them closely because your oven may cook a little different.

Ingredients for Cream filling! Eeek!

  • 1-2 cups powdered sugar

  • * Assorted holiday sprinkles

* This means optional.

How to make cream filling for Whoopie Pies

Of course, this is my kids favorite part, but what kid doesn’t love pure sugar. So I often give them a small spoon full or let them lick the bowl. It’s a wonder they arent 400 lbs! Just kidding. We really don’t have desserts that often.

Cream the butter and sugar in a mixer.

Now add in the marshmallow cream and vanilla extract.

I made a few Halloween Whoopie Pies before I added the food coloring.

Add in a small amount of orange food coloring or if you’re like me and your out you can also use red and yellow food coloring. Why do I know this you ask, because in school I too ART not band. LOL!

This is the color I decided to stick with. Ryker was excited because he said it was orange like his hair. Yep looks good to me too kid, I said.

After topping your Halloween Whoopie Pies with orange or white cream filling you can add some sprinkles or eyeballs for fun.

They were so good and kid approved! Isn’t everything made with sugar kid approved? That was rhetorical…
