How to Make a Groundhog Mask for Kids

Groundhog Day Masks is a quick, printable craft your kids will love. They can run around all day pretending to see their shadow and making shadows in the backyard sun. You can download your printable by clicking the link below. Use this groundhog mask template as a quick craft to color and play or use the white version to make the masks into a 3D art project on a cloudy day.

This is a great time for your kids to learn to color in the lines, color it like an actual groundhog, or let them create their own multicolored groundhog face. No matter how their coloring page turns out the point is to have fun while they make it. Be sure to print this groundhog’s face mask on cardstock its a great way to keep your kids busy playing and not coming back every few minutes because the paper tore. I like to use white cardstock it holds up best with crafts projects, and it is very versatile.

Next, you need to either cut the groundhog masks out for your kids or let them cut using safe scissors. This is great for occupational therapy because of the fine motor skills it takes to cut the mask and eye holes out. I usually watch my kids as they cut, incase then need the help or cheering support when they’re doing a great job on their own. Fun projects like this groundhog craft daily can really help your kid with their scissor skills. For more creative resources, please check the bottom of this post or look at this site for another idea to keep your kids busy.

If you choose, you can use these as a mask templates for a paper plate mask and add some tissue paper for the fur with the same eye holes cut out. This is a perfect way to help your kids discover their creative side. Do this while reading one of your kids’ favorite books.

Once your colored template has been cut out its time to hole punch the mask. You need to choose a spot about 1/2 inch in to make the hole punch. That way, the string won’t pull out and tear the paper.
