Santa’s reindeer are going to love this delicious snack when they stop at your house on Christmas Eve. To make this easy recipe, you will need to mix 1 c oats with 1/2 c red sanding sugar. You can also use a different colored sugars, or instead of sanding sugar, look for red or green sugar crystals. This should be enough to make about 8 bags, so use less or more depending on your needs.

Have your little kids help with this part. All four of my kids have always loved to help stir; in fact, they still help me make cookies just to steal a bite from the bowl. Stir the mixture until it looks fully incorporated, and set aside. This part of the craft is edible because kids love to taste things, so make sure the parents know it’s just a cup oatmeal and 1/2 cup sugar in the little bags.

Next, you will need your cellophane bags, adding a little to each bag. This is a great way to get all of your kids involved. Have your children help with this fun activity. The bigger kids can help make sure there’s enough in each bag before tying the top of the bag with a tie, pipe cleaners, or even a pretty piece of ribbon. Set all of your finished bags aside. If you don’t have any cellphane bags you can use a snack size ziplock bag for each gift.
This will be sprinkles on your lawn Christmas Eve night. Magic Reindeer food bags are a great party favor for your kids’ classmates or neighbors. You can also add a recipe card inside with the bags of reindeer food, so the kids can continue their new favorite Christmas tradition.

To create the bags, it will be an additional cost per bag, but if you already have a whole Cricut (or vinyl cutting machine) set up, then you’re good. If not you can turn this into printable tags to hang on the side with some ribbon and jingle bells. Either way, this makes a fun gift that brings the North Pole alive!
You know your kids best, but be careful only letting your older children help with this part of the craft. We will be using vinyl cutting machines, sharp knives and a heat press. This would be a great time for your younger kids to watch their favorite Christmas movie or other fun printable craft to color.
First, import your svg file into your Cricut or Silhouette.
If you’re using a Silhoutte you will need to open the SVG file to 3.5 inches wide.
If you’re using a Circut you will need to import the design, and then edit it to make it 3.5 inches wide. Then you can click make it, and be sure mirroring is on.
Next, add a 5×5 piece of vinyl to your cutting mat. Be sure the shiny side is down. Then cut the design into the vinyl using your machine’s settings for HTV. And now the fun part if you like it, weed the design. Some like it, some don’t at all, but this is the magic of Christmas, and we’re creating so much fun for several kids.

Now you will need to preheat your heat press to about 300 degrees. Set the blank burlap bags on your heat press mat. Preheat the bags for 5 seconds, then place the vinyl design specifically where you want it to go and cover it with parchment paper. Press the design for 30 seconds each, making sure to preheat the burlap bags before adding each design.

This inexpensive gift can be handed out instead of Christmas cookies to create new family traditions. Have your kids look in the sky for a flying red nosed reindeer and Santa Claus before going back inside the house. Christmas morning, they can all run out to see if they can find Santa’s sleigh tracks or leftover reindeer food. Merry Christmas!
