How to Make Red, White, and Blue Pudding Cups No-Bake Desserts
Move over Betty Crocker because today’s recipe is easier than flagging down the ice cream truck for your kids! I always hear the ice cream music as the truck drives away and hope my kids don’t hear. Keep these ingredients handy because it is a great treat to make on a hot summer day with your kids that they can help make and enjoy all on the same day. This July 4th recipe is also the perfect way to get your kids involved in cooking in the kitchen.
Grab all of your ingredients and let’s make these red white and blue patriotic treats! Start off by putting both boxes of instant pudding in a large mixing bowl. Next, add the milk (I like to use Whole Milk) and whisk until the pudding has thickened. I used cheesecake jello but you can also use white chocolate pudding instead. This easy dessert can be made early and set in the fridge. You can also add fruit into the pudding like using blueberries in the blue pudding mixture.
Divide the pudding into 3 separate bowls. You should have about a cup of pudding mixture in each of the 3 bowls. Any left over pudding can be divided between the red and white pudding bowl. You will need a little less pudding in the blue bowl.
We are going to start with the blue desserts. Using the bowl with one cup of pudding stir in 1/4 tsp blue food dye. Keep stirring until all of the color is incorporated. You don’t want blue streaks and white patches. Set the blue pudding aside and cover with plastic wrap.
The Red pudding bowl will need 1/4 tsp of red food dye or food gel stirred into the bowl holding 1 1/2 cup of the pudding mixture. Stir until the color is all the way through. If your pudding is looking more pink then feel free to add a little more red dye to the pudding. We really want a fun red color but be careful not to add too much. Once you have the desired color you can set the red pudding next to the blue.
The remaining 1 1/2 cups of pudding mixture will be used as white. This does not need any kind of dye added. Set this bowl of white pudding aside if you’re using an airtight container you can just set the lid on top of the container so nothing falls into the pudding.
Crush 20-25 whole Oreos using either a food processer and pulse a little bit at a time. You can also add the oreos to a ziplock bag and crush with a rolling pin. Once you have your oreos crushed it’s time to assemble this patriotic recipe. This is a great way to get rid of some oreos or left over pudding for a fun summer picnic or fourth of july celebration. Grab a separate bowl and pour in the smashed oreo pieces for this festive dessert.
Set out 4 cups so we can make this dessert with festive colors. Perfect for a Memorial Day party. The next step is to layer the patriotic colors in with the chocolate sandwich cookies. Each cup will need 1 tbsp crushed cookies in the bottom. When you have added cookies to each cup its time to add the blue pudding. Evenly spread 2 tbsp blue pudding right on top of the cookies. Continue until you have a layer of blue in each cup then add a second layer of 1 tbsp crushed cookies.
Each layer has a specific added to each cup. This recipe makes 4 pudding cups but you can easily double or triple it depending on your needs. 4th of July desserts should be easy, cold, and delicious.
The white layer is added to the pudding cups next. Spoon in 3 tbs white pudding on top of the smashed oreos. Add the white layer to each pudding cup then 1 1/2 tbsp cookies on top of the white pudding. Once you have the next layer of cookies in all the cups its time to add red to these patriotic pudding cups. Each cup needs 4 tbsp of red pudding and a topping of 2 tbsp of the remaining cookie crumbles.
Top each Red, White, and Blue Pudding Cup with a festive gummy worm and a cute flag topper. You could also add a sparkler looking toothpick or even patriotic sprinkles.
Let your kids choose what to add to the tops of the pudding cups. Im sure they will have some great ideas! Plus kids love the freedom of creativity. You can also make each of these July desserts a one of a kind treat. Making each pudding cup into its own personalized dessert for everyone coming to your party.
