Time capsule treasure box for kids
Annalee (one of my daycare kids) came to my house with an orange shoebox. She wanted to make a treasure box for our daily craft together. So we went around the house gathering up what I thought we could use. I found some gray spray paint. So the paint part was done. Then found some stickers and ribbon. Got out the hot glue gun, scissors, markers and printed Annalee’s Summertime Treasure Box on cardstock paper. Then the fun began! Thank goodness she was my only big kid that day otherwise I would’ve had to scramble to find something to make other treasure boxes out of and I didn’t have any shoe boxes!
Supplies you will need
- Spray paint (it’s faster than painting) or acrylic paint and a brush
- markers sharpies preferred
- stickers
- your child’s name printed on cardstock or they could write their name with markers
- scissors
- hot glue gun
- ribbon
How to make your Time Capsule Treasure Box
First, you will need to gather your supplies. After that, you can spray paint the shoebox outside (this should be done by an adult). Don’t have any spray paint? That’s just fine, just use some acrylic paint and don’t forget the paint brush!
Now that your box is dry start attaching your ribbon. Don’t forget to start the ribbon from the inside of your box to better secure it. When hot glueing remember the glue is super hot! Notice the ink pen I have holding the ribbon in place.
Let your child attach all the stickers they want!
Annalee drew a picture of me on the bottom. Ha ha ha! She is hilarious and so sweet! Apparently, I was wearing purple and had a bun on my head.. I love kids!
Here is her finished project! She used this treasure box as her summer time capsule. I think she did such a great job! That box traveled back and forth from my house to hers all summer long and surprisingly it held up really well.
Have you ever made something out of a shoebox if so what was it?
