What you need to make Fruit Loop Marshmallow Rainbow Snack

How to make Fruit Loop Marshmallow Rainbow Snack

This simple rainbow craft is a great activity for young kids to learn the rainbow color name ROY G BIV which stands for red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Let’s start this fun rainbow activity by grabbing a paper plate, fruit loops cereal, regular or mini marshmallows, and something to hold the rainbow together. I’m going to use wooden coffee sticks, this is a great fine motor activity for kids. Sometimes it’s difficult to learn how to thread things or use the pincher grasp so this is not only good exercise for them to practice but also an important skill to learn.

**Fruit loops can be a choking hazard so keep a close eye on your kids while they make their cute rainbow crafts, If you don’t have one, grab one of these Choking Rescue Devices by LifeVac. I have one at my house just in case.

To make this rainbow activity idea a different way or if you have bigger kids and would rather have them make a rainbow arch then you will need to use either Twizzlers Pull and Peel stings or a pipe cleaner would work in a pinch. Push the Twizzler or end of the pipe cleaner into the marshmallow instead of using the coffee sticks as I advised above. The marshmallow will act as a base to hold your rainbow fruit loop treats up in the air, like a real rainbow. If you are choosing to not eat the rainbow later on you can add a line of glue to hold the cereal in place and a dot of glue on the marshmallow to hold the pipe cleaner in place.

Need some St Patty’s Day Fun? To make this fun activity for St. Patricks Day then just add a pot of gold or gold wrapped delicious treat.  It could be a gold wrapped candy like Milky Way or Rolos or even a chocolate gold coin would be the perfect sweet treat to add to the crunchy texture of the fruit loops.

Your fruit loop rainbow should go red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple capped off by a regular sized marshmallow. Indigo is missing but Kellog’s didn’t make one of those fruit loops. So send all complaints to them, please!

Want to fill up the whole stick?

Let the kids practice their pincer grasp by repeating the rainbow over and over again. Create a fun rainbow snack by just putting all of one color like all of the red fruit loops onto the stick ending and beginning with a marshmallow and continuing until you have the entire Roy G BIV (minus the indigo) lined up, each color on its own stick.
